NaNoWriMo
NaNoWriMo is a month-long writing frenzy for writers who like a challenge! The idea is to write a 50,000 word novel from scratch, starting at midnight on November 1st and finishing at midnight on November 30th.
One of the ways people motivate themselves is to participate in a "word war", which can be between individuals or groups. Needless to say, the latter takes a lot of coordinating and number-crunching in order to keep the groups' average scores updated, so I've offered to host a database-driven scoreboard for the UK Regional Word War.
